Suliman Kamara is a seasoned professional with over three decades of experience in agricultural development, institutional capacity building, and project management, both in Liberia and the United States. His career has been marked by significant roles, including Deputy Chief of Party, Executive Director, and Assistant Minister of Research and Extension at the Ministry of Agriculture in Liberia. With a strong focus on sustainable livelihood development and food security programs, he has demonstrated expertise in managing the entire project cycle—from conceptualization through implementation—while effectively leading project teams and managing multi-donor initiatives.
Currently, Suliman is the President and CEO of Global Agriculture and Research for Farmland Restoration International (GAFAR Intl.), a position he has held since March 2024 in Worcester, Massachusetts. In this role, he is responsible for designing and managing projects that address sustainable livelihoods, climate-smart agroforestry, and farmland restoration, particularly in areas affected by deforestation and illicit activities. He is dedicated to expanding partnerships with both international and local stakeholders, ensuring compliance with policies, and leading innovative urban farming initiatives to maximize agricultural production.
Before his current role, he served as the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Consultant at Vainga Agriculture Development and Management Consultancy (VADEMCO, Inc.) in Monrovia, Liberia, where he managed various projects focused on sustainable agriculture and agroforestry. His efforts included the Liberia Cocoa Sector Improvement Program and partnerships with international organizations to enhance agricultural practices and value chains.
From 2012 to 2016, Suliman was the Executive Director of the Liberia Agriculture and Assets Development Company (LAADCO), where he transformed the company into a leading cocoa and coffee exporter in Liberia. Under his leadership, LAADCO expanded its operations and established partnerships with numerous farmer cooperatives, significantly increasing profits and providing critical support to smallholder farmers.
As Deputy Chief of Party for the USDA-funded ACDI/VOCA Livelihood Improvement for Farming Enterprises (LIFE) project from 2008 to 2013, he played a key role in managing an $11 million initiative aimed at improving cocoa production and farmer incomes. His advocacy efforts led to important policy changes that benefited local exporters and farmers.
Earlier in his career, Suliman worked as a Farm Technical Assistant and Cooperative Marketing Coordinator for the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project in Massachusetts. In this capacity, he provided vital support to immigrant farmers, helping them establish sustainable farming practices and connect with markets, which resulted in significant income increases for participants.
Throughout his career, Suliman Kamara has remained committed to agricultural development and empowering local communities, continuously seeking opportunities to enhance food security and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
